Smartphones

I'm treading off topic today because I have something to say.

I don't understand why it is so difficult to NOT sync your smartphone to every web-based account you own. Why does my phone constantly prompt me to sync my phone to my Facebook, Twitter, every Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail account I own?

My cell phone is device that is an extension of me, it is something personal and private, something that I need to function exactly as I need it to whenever I need it. I don't want a Contact list that has 300 contacts in it, between phone storage, a SIM card that doesn't work properly, T-Mobile online storage, and all those stupid website and email accounts. I don't need 5 contact entries for the same exact person, especially when all five of those entries are the same phone number.

Facebook and Twitter are not extensions of me, they are things I do to fill in minute-long voids between being Awesome and being handsome. My email accounts are undoubtedly important, given that I use them for work, networking and keeping in touch with family and friends, but I don't want every email contact I have to be listed in my phone, you know? If I need to check my email I will check the Internet or check an app that is not synced.

Speaking of apps: WHY do they prompt me to sync 51 new or 13 new or 70 new contacts? I have previously said no this these prompts dozens of time and turned the automatic syncing function off. But, they persist and it pisses me off.

This is stupid. Just because some people have a need to have every single acquaintance they know listed on their smartphone as a potential contact they might need to get ahold of one day, does not mean that just because I don't want everybody in one, easy convenient place my smartphone should irritate the hell out of me.

I'm quick with my phone - one gift I possess is great hand-eye coordination. Be it baseball, typing, video games, or tapping away on my smartphone, I do it fast and I don't give myself time to think and process things before clicking away. Thus, sometimes my phone prompts me in the middle of typing a text and I sync my contacts from Facebook or Gmail and have to waste an hour deleting, editing and consolidating the Contact list that I consolidated two weeks. ago. No exaggeration - every other week. My phone prompts me to sync about once every day. It's stupid.

I like compartmentalization. Keep my different personalities separate and everybody can be happy, okay? Okay.
